History of East Sikkim

Sikkim is the one of the smallest state in India with population of 619,000. It is situated in and surrounded by Tibetan plateau in North, It is endfolds the upper valley of teesta river Darjeeling district in south, kingdom of Bhutan in east and Singalila Range act as a Natural barrier with Nepal in west.

There is no any plains and no open valley found but it is the place of high ranges of Eastern Himalayas as Kanchanganga stands with height of 8598 m.

How to Reach

VIA AIR : Nearest airport from Sikkim is Bagdogra Airport at a distance of 124 km. This airport is connected to major airport of India and Bangkok. Airline companies like Indian Airlines, Spice Jet, and Go Air etc are functional here. You can further reach Gangtok by availing helicopter service, which is subjected to weather conditions. You can hire a taxi otherwise (Approximately 4 hours drive).

VIA TRAIN : Major railway heads near Gangtok are New Jagalpaiguri (188 Km) and Siliguri (145 Km). These railway stations are well connected with major cities and towns of India. You can further board a bus or hire a taxi to reach Sikkim.

VIA ROAD : There are frequent public and private bus services connecting Sikkim with other neighboring towns and cities. These buses run all through the day until night. You can also get easy access to taxis and jeeps for inter and intra state travelling. National Highway 31A is the most functional national highway in Sikkim.

Places to Visit
Nathula

Nathula Pass was a major corridor of passage between India and Tibet before it was closed in 1962. Located around 56 kms from Gangtok at an altitude of 14450 ft.

Tsomgo Lake

Tsomgo Lake (Changu Lake) is located 30 Km from Gangtok on the way to Nathula Pass. In Bhutaia Lacguage the word Tsomgo means the ‘Source on Lakes’.

Hanuman Tok

Hanuman Tok is located 9 km from Gangtok. It provides a view point for a majestic gaze into the valley below and the horizon ahead with the formidable majestic mountain peaks of Khangchendzonga.
